Inside The Artist’s Journey Book: Personalizing Your Journey/Making The Journey Yours
The artist’s journey is an inner journey. It’s about facing yourself and the inner perils of creating- and going ahead anyway.
The Artist’s Journey book exhorts you to move closer and closer to your deepest self expression in your art and life.
Artist Kathy Kimball describes the book as “Nancy’s map of the journey to YES”.
I’m going to share with you the work of two artists who are using The Artists’s Journey book to activate their creativity and explore deeper questions in their art.
A wonderful artist on the journey, Geraldine Darlington, personalized her copy of the book and sent images to me. I created a little video of Geraldine’s writings, drawings and paintings to share with you below.
Kathy Kimball, after seeing the video, wrote:
WOW. What a lovely introduction to a fabulous book. Kudos to Nancy and to Geraldine for showing her work coming from Nancy’s map of the journey to YES.
Here’s another little video that Geraldine Darlington created and further personalization of The Artist’s Journey book. You can see she’s using the book to guide her on her journey of self expression in her art and life.
And a few more images from Geraldine’s personalization of the The Artist’s Journey book:

Making The Journey Yours
The Artist’s Journey is a why-to, not a how-to book. It is not an exhibition of my paintings. Indeed, there are no pictures in this book. While there are suggested exercises and an accompanying resource library with video lessons, the essence of this book is YOU. Your art.
The Artist’s Journey book is an inspirational exhortation with psychological and philosophical underpinnings to move you closer and closer to your deepest self expression in your art and life.
The Journey Of Yes
The book is focused on the inner journey of finally saying “yes” to your dreams of creating your deepest art and life..

Peg Belcastro is an artist in my online course who wrote to tell me of the profound effect of The Artist’s Journey book on her art..
I recently received your book from Amazon and dove right in! I’ve been taking your online course since last June and it has helped me tremendously from the very start. Now with the book in hand, I am allowing your words to sink in even more and I’m really taking them to heart. In that vein, I wanted to share something with you.Yesterday, I was painting on my usual size stretched canvas, making moves with some bold colors as an underpainting. I was feeling totally free and having fun. All of a sudden these words came flowing into my head and I was compelled to drop the paintbrush, pick up a pen and start jotting down the words:Tapping into that which is unseen, and heard only through the soul. This energy is brought forth by the hand – holding tools for translating that energy into color and line. The language of the spirit is movement: pure energy, electrical impulses of the body. Closer and closer to the essence of my being, unfettered by ego or the thinking mind.
When I looked up at my painting, I saw a face looking back at me! I had no idea that the face was unfolding as I painted, as I had not stepped back from the wall for the last several minutes. This painting was supposed to be just a start, an underpainting for further development. However, I’ve had such a good response from everyone who has seen it that I decided to keep it. In fact, I’ve titled it Leo as several people thought it looked like a lion. Plus, I’m a Leo! : ). I think it’s all connected – and very cool!I have finished your book and now I’m going to start it all over again- probably many times. It’s similar to another favorite of mine, Art & Fear, which I’ve read a zillion times and learn something new every time I pick it up. I know your book will be the same – plus there’s ample room to make notes and doodle in the margins. I love that!
Will you say “yes” to your deepest dreams?
